St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church acknowledges the importance of the tradition of requesting Masses to be offered for the repose of the souls of our beloved deceased and for the intentions of our brothers and sisters here on earth.

The practice of requesting a Mass to offered for loved ones, living or deceased, is a beautiful part of our Catholic tradition.  A Mass intention may be requested for:

  • A person who is deceased
  • A living person who is sick or suffering
  • A living person who is celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion
  • A group of people who are connected in some way, such as a family
  • In thanksgiving to God (including thanksgiving to the Lord Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit)
  • In thanksgiving for a prayer answered through the intercession of a Blessed or a Saint (not to the Blessed or Saint)
  • A special intention appropriate to the celebration of the Eucharist (e.g., world peace, vocations, respect for life, etc.)
Mass Intentions Policy

At St. Rose, there are many requests for Mass intentions. We are often booked nearly a year in advance, and Mass intentions are to be celebrated within one year of being scheduled. Therefore, to be fair to everyone and to allow as many parishioners as possible to schedule Mass intentions, we have established the following policy:

1.    A maximum of five (5) intentions per registered household may be scheduled through the parish, with no more than two (2) scheduled for weekend Masses.  All additional requests will be scheduled for daily Masses.

2.    Individuals who are not registered parishioners may request two (2) intentions, with no more than one (1) scheduled for a weekend Mass.

3.    Occasionally, a scheduling conflict may arise and a Mass intention cannot be celebrated on the requested date. If this occurs, please be assured that the intention will still be honored and the Mass will be celebrated on another date.

Requests for Mass Intentions are made through the parish office by completing the form found below, or by contacting Kathy Knowles. Those who are homebound or unable to visit the parish office may call to submit their request.  Please keep in mind that the parish office is not always staffed; however, you may leave a message, and your call will be returned.

Lengthy intention listings cannot be published in the bulletin and will be edited for brevity.  Since the purpose of publishing an intention in the bulletin is to notify the family and friends, we recommend omitting middle initials, titles, and similar details.  Each intention is limited to either two (2) names or one (1) group designation, such as John Brown; John & Mary Brown; or the Brown Family.

The Mass intention schedule is subject to change if the parish Mass schedule changes. Every effort will be made to communicate any necessary changes.

Remember that every member of the faithful who attends Mass, by virtue of their royal priesthood, joins in the offering of the Eucharist by presenting their own intentions and sacrifices to God.
